Don the eel man

Hi everyone
 Today we just had a visit from Don.  He is a scientist on eels he works for NIWA. 

I learnt that......
*They have great small.
*They spend most of their  life in freshwater.
*They can swim backwards and forwards.
*Long fin eels are easy to catch.
*There are 19 different types of eels.
*In the day it can sense things passing.
*They can eat small animals even birds.
*Eels eat their food whole.
*Long fin eels eat their food whole.
*Females are bigger the male.
*They breathe through their gills if not wet.
*Every year they grow an extra ring.
*2 meter they  grow to.
*Males only grow 75 meters long.
*Females are bigger than Males.

It was so fun that Don could come and talk to us.  It was really interesting.
